KiwiBuild Pre-Qualify Online Portal Is Now Open

KiwiBuild Pre-Qualify

KiwiBuild Pre-Qualify online portal is now open.

That means New Zealanders like you, who have registered an interest in owning a KiwiBuild home, can now apply online to determine their eligibility to enter a ballot for a KiwiBuild home.
It’s an exciting milestone for the KiwiBuild programme. Aspiring first homeowners who have been locked out of the housing market can now look to buy a modest, starter home.
Today’s announcement comes ahead of the first limited release of three and four bedroom homes in Papakura. We’ll let you know just as soon as they’re ready to go to market.

Should I apply to pre-qualify for a KiwiBuild home now?

If you meet the eligibility criteria and you are interested in entering a ballot to purchase one of the first KiwBuild homes in Papakura, Auckland, then yes!

Start by going to the pre-qualification page on the KiwiBuild website and click on the link. That will take you to the secure online portal where you can submit your details and supporting documentation. Once your application has been processed, KiwiBuild will be in touch to confirm your qualification.

And there will be plenty of time to put together your application, view the available KiwiBuild homes and make an informed decision about becoming a homeowner. The ballot for the first limited release of homes in Papakura will open in September.

Remember, this is the first ballot and KiwiBuild is a 10-year programme. More ballots will be announced as the programme scales up, and we’ll give you enough time to organise your documentation.

Where and when will we see more homes?

Over the next decade, homes will be built across New Zealand to help meet the growing demand for affordable housing. The initial focus will be on areas with high housing demand and affordability pressures including Auckland, Wellington, Hamilton, Napier-Hastings, Queenstown-Lakes District, Tauranga, Whangarei District and Nelson-Tasman.

How do I know if I am eligible for a KiwiBuild home?

To ensure these KiwiBuild homes go to the people for whom they are intended, applicants must also:

• Be a first-time buyer or a ‘second chancer’
• Have an income of less than $120,000 for a single applicant, or no more than $180,000 for more than one purchaser
• Be a New Zealand permanent resident or citizen, or a resident visa holder who is ‘ordinarily resident in New Zealand’
• Intend to live in the home as their main place of residence for at least three years

The online pre-qualification process will ask for specific documentation including:

• Proof of residency
• Proof of income
• Statutory declaration signed by an authorized person (e.g. a Justice of the Peace, lawyer)
Financial pre-approval

Finally, buying a home is one of the biggest financial decisions you will make in your life. KiwiBuild hopes to make the process as easy as possible for you. However, it’s important that you consider the financial implications of home ownership, and if you’re unsure at any stage, seek professional financial advice.
